PROJECTS

Gihon doesn't stop at just providing education to the women who attend our center, we seek to improve all aspect of the lives of the women we help. See below to find out more about our projects.

1

FUND THE CENTRES

Our most important project seeks to cover the monthly $400 USD rent for the center each month. Without this, the organization and all of our projects will be discontinued.

4

SEWING SPONSORS

Sewing sponsor's donate towards paying for much needed sewing machines for the program. Currently, the women use two very old machines which often break, making it difficult to participate in the sewing lessons given three times a week. When operating correctly, the machines serve as a means of sustainable income by helping the women to make garments and bags to sell. For 1 machine, the cost is $150 USD. While we dont expect any single person to offer this entire amount, any donation is earnestly recieved.

2

SPONSOR A CHILD

Education is the main force behind social mobility. It gives children the skills needed to strive towards a brighter and more successful future. The Kings & Queens Rehoboth Learning Centre allows under-privileged students to attend classes while Agnes looks for sponsors. With a contribution of $29 USD a month or $349 USD annually, you can sponsor a child's tuition fees, uniforms, textbooks and stationary for an entire year. Costs breakdown can be provided. For more informatio on how you can help us with this project, please see our 'Sponser a Child' tab.

SAFE HOUSE

PROJECT

Gihon was founded under principles of love, respect, support and equality. Domestic and gender-based violence infringes upon all of these things. In the future, the organization would like to purchase a land that will be able to hold the Women's Centre, the Children's Learning Centre and a Rescue Centre, which will be a safe space for women suffering abuse at the hands of their husbands, fathers or partners. The total cost to purchase a land is $25,000 USD. Please consider donating any amount to this fund.

3

SANITARY PAD PROJECT

Our newest program, the "Sanitary Pad Project," tackles the enormous issues that stem from insufficient hygiene options for disadvantaged women in the Kitengela area. Sanitary towels are often too expensive for many women to afford for themselves and their daughters. The result is low school attendance during their menstruation periods every month for girls, and low attendance each month for the women who come to our center. For only $30 USD, this project funds sufficient sanitary towels for 60 women for an entire month.

6

HEALTHCARE PROJECT

Healthcare is one of the most important components of a developing community. Unfortunately, many of our women and their families cannot afford health insurance. Without proper insurance the cost of prevention and/or treatment for health concerns is too high, resulting in people unable to get adequate care. This not only causes individual health problems but also increases the risk of spreading preventable disease to others. For a one time payment of $60 USD you can sponsor a woman and her entire family's health insurance for a full year.
